Ghanaian-American singer and songwriter, Moliy Ama Montgomery popularly known as Moliy has been named Apple Songs’ Africa Rising Star.

With her new status, she is entitled to an editorial support such as playlisting and spotlighting, allowing her music to reach a wider audience.

Apple Music’s Africa Rising is an exclusive artiste development program and accompanying playlist aimed at recognising, presenting, and elevating rising artistes.

Moliy, who rose to prominence after appearing on Amaarae’s 2020 single Sad Gurlz Luv Money remix with Kali Uchis, joins other recipients such as Nikita Kering, Tems, Omah Lay, Ayra Starr, Manu Worldstar, Amaarae, Yaw Tog, Blxckie, Buju, and Gyakie.

Reacting to the announcement posted on her social media pages, Moliy wrote: “What an honour it is to be the next Africa Rising artist. This moment right now is everything I’ve been praying for, from Ghana to Africa, from Africa to the whole world! I’m hoping this shows young girls everywhere that their dreams are valid, to be brave and not cower amongst any naysayers. Thank you for seeing and hearing me.”

Moliy has songs such as Wondergirl, In a Loop, Lov Doc, My Way, Hard, Freak, Ghana Bop, Loud and Jonny among others.

The songstress released her debut EP Wondergirl in 2020 and album titled ‘Honey Doom’ in 2022.
