Kwaku The Traveller hitmaker, Black Sherif has been crowned VGMA24 Artiste of the Year.
He beat a tough competition from his closest rival, Piesie Esther who had been tipped as a likely candidate for the ultimate prize, Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, King Promise, Camidoh, KiDi, who is the reigning VGMA Artiste of the Year, and Joe Mettle.
He also won Best Hiphop Song of the Year, Best Music Video, and Most Popular Song of the Year awards.
Other winners on the night included Sarkodie, Piesie Esther, Stonebwoy, Niella, King Promise, Perez Musik, Kelvyn Boy, Kofi Kinaata and Camidoh.
Highlife artiste, Akyireba Kofi Sammy was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
There were performances by Piesie Esther and gospel all-stars, KiDi, DSL, Epixode, Lasmid, King Promise, Kwabena Kwabena and Ofori Amponsah.
Black Sherif’s debut single, “Money” was released on May 25, 2020.
In May 2021, his single “First Sermon” was released grabbing huge attention. The song’s sequel, “Second Sermon,” was released in July the same year and later, a remix with fellow African artiste Burna Boy.
However, “Kwaku the Traveller,” which reached number 1 on the Ghanaian and Nigerian Apple Music charts shot up his popularity and prominence on the international front.
He released his debut album, “The Villain I Never Was”, in October 2022, with popular tracks such as “45” and “Soja”.
Black Sherif also hosted his maiden concert, The Mozama Disco concert in December last year cementing his status as one of the solid artistes in the year under review.
Black Sherif succeeds Lynx Entertainment signee, KiDi.
