Earlier today, social media was flooded with congratulatory messages for popular Nigerian chef, Hilda Effiong Bassey popularly known as Hilda Baci after cooking for the past 88 hours.
The TV producer and head cook at FoodbyHilda had been cooking for four days and four nights to break the 87 hours, 45 minutes set by Chef Lata London in Rewa, India in 2019.
However, in the heat of the moment and with congratulatory messages pouring in from across the world for the feat, Guinness World Records says it’s yet to confirm Hilda’s new record.
In a tweet responding to a question by a social media user, Alexandra on why they haven’t made any official statement about the new record, it said that they are yet to review all the evidence.
“We are aware of this amazing record attempt. We need to review all the evidence first before officially confirming a record,” the tweet noted.
Guinness World Records, known from its inception in 1955 until 1999 as The Guinness Book of Records and in previous United States editions as The Guinness Book of World Records, is a British reference book published annually, listing world records both of human achievements and the extremes of the natural world.
Last week Thursday, May 11, Hilda Baci, a popular Nigerian chef set to set a new cooking marathon record.
The current record for the world’s longest cooking marathon is held by Lata Tondon, who completed the task in 87 hours, 45 minutes, and 00 seconds in Rewa, India, in 2019.
